Child Counselling
Helping Children Build Skills
Counselling provides a safe and supportive space for children to better understand their feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. Through gentle guidance and practical tools, children can learn to manage challenges, build confidence, and develop healthy coping strategies that last.
Areas of Focus
We support children with a range of emotional and behavioural needs, including:
ADHD: Building attention, planning, and self-control skills.
Anxiety: Learning to understand and manage worries.
Emotional regulation: Recognizing emotions, understanding your reactions, and expressing feelings in healthy ways.
Social skills: Practicing communication, empathy, and problem-solving with others.
Our Approach
Sessions are caring, playful, structured, and age appropriate. We use mostly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) strategies to help children make connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. CBT teaches children practical skills such as noticing unhelpful thoughts, recognizing their emotions, and choosing more helpful responses.
Each session is personalized to your child’s needs. We work together to make therapy positive, engaging, and focused on progress. Parents are included in the process with children so that strategies can be supported at home in daily life.
Counselling Fees
The Association for Psychologists in Nova Scotia recommends a fee for psychologists of $225 per clinical hour (50-minute session). Our counselling fees are in line with other psychology practices.
We direct-bill insurance for counselling services through Blue Cross, companies in Telus Health eClaims (e.g., Canada Life, Manulife, etc.), and Greenshield.
